The first replica of the BRM V16 is finished and ready for the real thing. The completely new BRM, built according to original blueprints, has let out its mighty roar in public.
Anyone who has some of the best sounding engines ever in a row will undoubtedly know of the existence of the BRM (P15) V16. A 1950s Formula 1 car with a V16 that – once revved up – screams like a terrifying monster. Just over a year ago it was announced that three new copies will be built, almost one to one as the original was once made. In March we already heard the new V16, now it is actually in the car and it has already been on the track.
The first copy goes to John Owen (photo 2), the grandson of the team principal of the BRM F1 team from the 1950s. Owen heard the mighty V16 as a little boy when BRM was still competing in F1 and thinks it is crazy that he sound again, from his own car: “It was an incredible moment when I heard that V16 again after all these years. Truly a dream come true.” The circuit manager gave BRM ‘a tap on the fingers for the noise’ when the V16 once turned 9,000 rpm. Then the visitors of Goodwood Revival can get their hands dirty this weekend, because that’s where the BRM V16 comes into action.
