Ford: ‘This is how children like to see the car of the future’

Ford has asked children about their future vision for the car. The generation that will be allowed to get behind the wheel in 2030 has a clear view on it.

The British branch of Ford examined how children who will be allowed on the road in 2030 – the year in which the British ban the internal combustion engine – envision the future of the car. The children, now 8 or 9 years old, see a fully electric future, according to Ford. 49 percent want an electric car by the time they are allowed to drive, 17 percent a petrol car, 10 percent a diesel car and 7 percent a car that runs on gas.

Other wishes are also clear. The majority of children hope that by then cars will be able to fly. 36 percent see comfortable seats as one of the most important things, 27 percent want a good sound system and 32 percent want ‘environmentally friendly properties’. Striking is the relative division when it comes to what the children see as the most environmentally friendly drive. Electric cars are the highest rated in this respect (45 percent), 21 percent think that petrol cars are better than electric cars in that respect. 19 percent believe that petrol cars and electric cars are equally good for the environment.

As a kind of thank you for the children, Ford has sketched a Ford of the future. The Ford Future Generation Concept has some features that most children found important and the wishes have also been listened to for the appearance. It is electrically powered and, in addition to driving, it can also fly. Then a kind of wings appear above the carriage. In theory, of course, because this concept car also contains a pinch of childish fantasy.

In the video below, the young visionaries explain what they think of the future of the car:
