Open a desk or kitchen drawer and there’s a good chance you’ll see a USB stick. For years that was the storage medium you used to store and easily carry all kinds of data such as vacation photos. Today, more and more people are turning to cloud storage provided by services such as Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. External/portable SSDs have also become a good alternative. The compact size also makes them easy to take with you, they are very fast in transferring files and they are shock resistant.

a secure external ssd

Moreover, the prices of external SSDs have fallen sharply in recent years, such as the Samsung Portable SSD T7 Touch, which is also safe due to fingerprint recognition. Nevertheless, USB sticks are still used that come in different shapes and sizes, where the speed is especially important. Undoubtedly you also have USB sticks in your possession that cannot be burned in advance. That is why we are looking at a USB stick that is fast, good and reliable.

SAMSUNG FIT PLUS
The FIT Plus USB Stick AB from Samsung is the smallest USB stick in the range with dimensions of 23.6 x 18.8 x 7.3 mm (WxHxD). As a result, it hardly protrudes from your laptop and you can consider it a welcome extension of the memory storage of your laptop. Thanks to the eye, you can also attach it to your key ring, if you want to use it separately from your laptop.
As mentioned, we look here at good, fast and reliable USB sticks. That also means that there is a price tag: the suggested retail price of the 128GB version we tested is € 27.99. Although you can buy a USB stick with the same capacity from another (unknown) brand for roughly half this amount, we have already explained why we choose this USB stick.

SPEED
Samsung claims a read speed of 300 MB/s thanks to USB 3.1. We tested the read and write speed with the benchmark CrystalDiskMark. We looked at both sequential (continuous data flow with large files, such as a large photo folder) and random (random with small files). With more than 300 MB/s reading speed, the Fit Plus ‘sequentially’ scored well and the approximately 65 MB/s writing speed is also something to write home about. At random, all speeds are around 14 MB/s. Conclusion: if you are looking for a USB stick to expand your laptop memory, then the Samsung FIT Plus is an excellent choice.
