While one car manufacturer after another is leaving the MPV behind, it is BMW that bites into the segment in which you never expected the brand. This is the new BMW 2 Series Tourer. It looks bolder than ever and will be available in the Netherlands from February 2022.
Anyone who had said ten years ago that BMW would come up with a front-wheel drive BMW was undoubtedly laughed at. Nevertheless, the brand launched the 2-series Tourer in 2014, a very sober but at the same time smart five-seat MPV by BMW standards, which was even joined by the larger 2-series Grand Tourer with seven seats. Several manufacturers leave the MPV segment for what it is, but BMW is cool with a completely new 2-series Active Tourer.
The new BMW 2-series Active Tourer is 4.39 meters long, making the second generation of BMW’s MPV 3.2 centimeters longer than the original. However, the wheelbase of the 2-series Active Tourer is unchanged at 2.67 meters, although both the body and the track width at the front and rear are about 2.5 centimeters wider. For a ‘space car’ nothing is as relevant as interior space and so it is striking that the luggage space of the new 2-series Active Tourer has hardly grown compared to the previous model. The 2-series Active Tourer swallows 470 liters, a modest 2 liters more than its predecessor .. If you flatten the back seat, you can carry up to 1,455 liters of stuff, which is less than the 1,510 liters you would have in that situation. the outgoing model could handle. BMW supplies the 2-series with conventional petrol and diesel engines, about which more later, but also with mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Due to the placement of the extra hardware required for those electrified powertrains, the mild-hybrid flavors have a luggage space in which you can store 415 liters. With 406 litres, the plug-ins have the smallest storage space.
The new 2-series Active Tourer will come to the Netherlands in February 2022. Prices will follow in the run-up to the market launch.
