Large file transfer sites are convenient, unless you want to retrieve the content via the Safari browser on Apple mobile devices. Here is how to work around the problem.
Sending videos to a friend using an iPhone or iPad can be tricky when you don’t have a mobile device or Apple account. In addition, couriers often limit the size of e-mail attachments. The WeTransfer service solves this problem since it allows you to easily send large videos (up to 2 GB). On the other hand, reception on an iPhone or iPad with the Safari browser poses a problem: the program starts playing the video, but does not allow it to be saved on the device’s memory, to watch it later. Fortunately, there is an alternative to achieve its ends.
1 – Transfer video from computer with WeTransfer
This first step only concerns the sender. Before sending your video to the WeTransfer service, first check that the video is compatible with Apple mobile devices (MP4 format, H.264 video codec, AAC audio codec). Then go to the site www.wetransfer.com, choose the option Take me to Free and click on the button I accept. Then enter the file, the e-mail address of the sender and that of the recipient. Click on the button To transfer to start the transfer. When the operation is complete, the recipient receives an email with the video download link.
2 – Download and launch the Documents app 5
The following steps this time concern the recipient. Go to the Apple App Store and download the free Documents app 5. Open the app and tap the box Later for the proposal of interesting news.
3 – Use the integrated browser
On the app home screen, touch the compass icon at the bottom right to launch the web browser. Type in the address bar the WeTransfer link of the video (for example we.tl/NxmigKA123).
4 – Start the download
Touch the button I agree, then the button Download to download the video.
5 – Rename the file if necessary
The app offers you to change the name of the file, but this is not necessary. Just touch the button OK to validate. If a window appears to allow receipt of notifications, select the option To allow. Touch the book-shaped icon, located at the bottom left, to return to the home screen.
6 – Access the video
On the home screen, a new icon Downloads just appeared. Touch it to access the video (a horizontal bar indicates its progress). When the download is complete, touch the video icon to start playing it.
This method works with WeTransfer, but also with other sites that offer direct download videos. Once the video is watched, you can delete it with the button To modify located at the top of the downloads window.
