iOS 11 brings many new features to the iPhone and iPad. 01net.com has compiled 15 of them, not necessarily highlighted by Apple.
Available since September 19, iOS 11 brings its share of new features to the iPhone and disrupts the experience on the iPad. If Apple particularly emphasizes augmented reality, the new control center or the iPad experience, now closer to a Mac, iOS 11 brings many other new features. 01net presents 15 functions to better master the latest update from Apple.
Video recording of the screen
Claimed for years by users, the possibility of video recording your screen is finally available with iOS 11. To activate in the settings of the new control center, it is triggered quickly and records, in addition to the sound emitted by the device, microphone sound on request.
Editing screenshots
Screen capture becomes smarter with iOS 11. For each capture, iOS offers an edit mode for about ten seconds in the lower left corner of the screen. Pencil, highlighter or crop, iOS 11 gives some pretty handy options, especially with Apple Pencil.
“Type to Siri”
Are you uncomfortable talking on your phone in public? With the “Type to Siri” function available in the “Accessibility” settings of iOS, you can now choose to use your keyboard rather than your voice to interact with Siri. It is also possible to mute Siri when silent mode is activated.
Diet photos / videos
A real revolution, Apple replaces JPEGs with HEIFs and now encodes videos in HEVC. In other words: for a similar quality, photos and videos weigh twice as much as before. This new setting is however reserved for devices equipped with an A10 processor or higher such as the iPhone 7 and iPad Pro. If for one reason or another, in particular of compatibility, you prefer to use the JPEG, deactivate it in the settings of the camera, tab “Format”.
Share a Wi-Fi network
Invited to spend the evening at your place, a friend asks you for your Wi-Fi code. Except that the latter is spread over 26 characters and is hidden behind your television. The new iOS lets you share your password with a tap if your friend’s iPhone (also on iOS 11) is close to yours. It just needs to try to connect to your wireless network and your iPhone will receive a notification.
One-handed keyboard on iPhone
Small-handed iPhone Plus owners have much to celebrate with iOS 11: Apple is adding a one-handed keyboard. Just hold down the globe or emoji button for 3 seconds to be able to compress your keyboard to the right or to the left.

A keyboard to slide on iPad
In addition to being equipped with an improved multitasking system, drag and drop or a Dock, the iPad adopts a brand new keyboard. Each key offers a second character accessible by holding it down and sliding down. Enough to make the touchscreen keyboard much more attractive.
Autofill in applications
iOS 11 improves its password manager built into iCloud. In addition to suggesting IDs and passwords on the web, Autofill now recognizes applications. If you have previously signed in to Facebook.com, iOS can now automatically sign in to the Facebook app.

QR Code reading
The “Camera” application for iPhone and iPad is now able to recognize a QR Code and offers a notification to open it in Safari. The option can be deactivated in the settings.
ICloud Storage Sharing
With iOS 11, Apple can share the 200 GB and 1 TB iCloud storage plans. A family sharing member only needs to subscribe to one of these offers and activate the family option for the space to become common to all members of a family.

Each AirPod has its own function
By tapping twice on an AirPod, you could with iOS 10 pause a song or launch Siri. With iOS 11, Apple adds two new options, accessible in the Airpods section of Bluetooth settings: “next song” and “previous song”. Best of all, we can now assign each AirPod a different function. Siri on the left and next track on the right for example.
SOS mode
Available only in India since last year, SOS mode is expanding internationally with iOS 11. It allows users to configure trusted contacts to be reached in an emergency, from the SOS settings menu. Then, five consecutive presses on the power button allow you to access SOS mode in case of danger, and then decide whether to contact the emergency services or not. Enabling this mode also disables Touch ID (or Face ID).

Hidden dark mode
Failing to have a true dark mode in iOS 11, Apple has developed a mode of inversion of colors “intelligent”, available in the settings of accessibility. This function reverses the colors of iOS to dark while leaving the images in their original colors. A display that should be ideal on the Super Retina OLED screen of the iPhone X.
New iMessage Effects
Since iOS 10, it is possible to decorate the sending of an iMessage with a visual effect or additions such as confetti. With iOS 11, Apple adds two new effects. “Echo” gives the impression of sending the same message several dozen times while “Spotlight” places your bubble in the spotlight.
Automatic configuration
No need to spend several minutes setting up your Apple device. With iOS 11, Apple introduced a feature called “Automatic Setup”. New Apple Watch, Apple TV or even iPhone? Just bring your device closer to an existing one to share all your preferences and accounts.
