The latest version of Skype cannot be installed on newer versions of Windows 10 unless you use compatibility mode.
Microsoft has made a major overhaul of Skype, its instant messaging and video conferencing software. The latest version of the software, which incorporates new features but also and above all, a completely reworked interface, can however only be installed on old versions of Windows.
Users using Windows 10 in a version later than 1511 are indeed unable to install Skype manually on their machine. When opening the program installation file, an error message is displayed and invites them to install the software through the Windows Store. The only problem is that the version offered on the Microsoft Store does not include the latest innovations in the software.

However, it is possible to overcome this limitation by following a very simple little manipulation.
1. Right click on the Skype installation file and click on “Properties”.

2. In the Properties window that appears, go to the “Compatibility” tab.
3. Check the box “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and leave the default choice, Windows 8.

4. Open the Skype installation file and start the installation as you normally would.
