The task automation app makes it easy to turn your Android smartphone’s Wi-Fi on or off depending on your location.
Are you looking for ways to save your smartphone battery? You can use a free service called IFTTT, which just requires some knowledge of English. This mysterious acronym stands for If This Then That and uses a simple principle: If one or more conditions are met, then one or more actions are triggered.
You can create your own rules, also known as recipes or applets, but many are already available to make your job easier or give you ideas. For example, here’s how to automatically turn on your Android smartphone’s Wi-Fi when you get home and how to turn it off when you leave your home.
Activate Wi-Fi when you get home
- Download IFTTT, available for Android or iOS, and launch the app. Create an account that will be used to save your rules.
- In the main screen, tap on the icon Search at the bottom of the screen, then Wireless in the search box. Then select Automatically turn your Android device’s WiFi on when you get home (Automatically turn on your Android device’s Wi-Fi when you get home). With your finger, flip the switch Turn one to the right.

- Scroll down to get to the section Your home address and tap on Edit location. Allow IFTTT to access the location of the smartphone if a message appears with this request.
- Type your address in the box at the top of the screen, then make the area larger or smaller with your fingers, just like when you zoom. We advise you to leave a little space around your home.

- Confirm by tapping on the icon at the top right of the screen. Then validate the configuration and tap on the arrow at the top left to return to your rules.

Turn off Wi-Fi when you leave your home
Go back to the research section, type Wireless and scroll down to select Turn off WiFi on your Android when you leave home to save power (Turn off your Android’s Wi-Fi when you leave your home to save energy).

Then proceed in the same way as for the previous rule to define the location of your home and validate the operation.
