AutoWeek is also there for those who look beyond their car nose and also find it interesting which models and model variants are not sold in the Netherlands. We have a new variant of the Navara, which is no longer available in the Netherlands, on offer especially for them.

In Europe, it will probably be over for the Nissan Navara by the middle of next year. The factory in Barcelona, Spain, where the European versions of the Navara come off the production line, will close its gates next year. Although Nissan says it is investigating whether a ‘restart’ is possible by, for example, shipping copies built in Thailand to Europe, we must assume that we will say goodbye to the Navara next year. In the Netherlands we know the model mainly as a Double Cab, so with four full doors and a rear seat, and as a King Cab with short rear-hinged doors and a ‘missing rear seat’. In Australia, among others, Nissan supplies a Single Cab as a chassis cab (photo 18), but South Africa is now getting acquainted with a real conventional Single Cab, complete with a decent-looking loading platform and with a step in the side.

Nissan Navara Single Cab

Nissan Navara

This Single Cab of this facelifted Navara presented in South Africa (where pick-ups are also called ‘Bakkie’) seems to be a unique offer. The model is 5.24 meters long, all its more generously dressed versions, thanks to different bumper work, are 10 centimeters longer. The body is 2.31 meters deep, while the cabin itself offers space for two occupants. The King Cabs have a small back seat – outside the Netherlands – but there is absolutely no room for that in the Single Cab. Nissan supplies the Navara Single Cab with a 161 hp and 223 Nm strong 2.5 four-cylinder, but also has 2.5 biturbo diesels with 163 hp and 190 hp on the order list. Both the 160 hp and 190 hp self-igniters are available with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The maximum payload is – depending on the chosen version – 1,065 to 1,144 kilos.

Fully loaded, but then with just the two of you. And in South Africa.
