Also to discover in video:
1. From the settings button
Launch Safari then, at the bottom right of the window, click on the Settings button. At the bottom of the pop-up menu that appears, several predefined background images are suggested. Click on one of them to apply it to the browser window.

2. From the right click menu
Open a Safari window, then right click on the open tab page and click Choose Background.

By default, Safari opens a native macOS directory where operating system background images are stored (System> Library> Desktop Pictures). Select an image and click the Choose button.

You can obviously navigate to another directory on your Mac to select an image of your choice stored on your machine. It is also from this contextual menu of the right click that it is possible to Erase the background.
3. Using drag and drop
To quickly customize the Safari background image without having to navigate through the different menus, you can simply drag and drop an image into the empty tab so that it fits directly into the background.
