AC Cars has decided to take a moment to reflect on the approaching ‘end of the fuel engine’. It does so with a reincarnation of the Ace, the predecessor of the Cobra.
Of course we mainly know AC from the iconic Cobra, but the previously released Ace is also very similar. AC Cars has recently started building that classic again. In September it presented the electrically powered Ace RS, now (fortunately for the fans) there is also a version that simply has a combustion engine in the nose. AC Cars apparently sees this as something so special and no longer self-evident that it indicates that this Ace RS is thinking about ‘the end of the fuel engine’.
It therefore seems that AC Cars is referring to more than just the British ban before 2030 and will no longer introduce ‘new’ models with combustion engines from now on. “The new AC Ace RS could very well be the last new AC model with a fuel engine. Virtually every model already has an electric version, as AC is leading the sports car industry into a greener future,” said CEO Alan Lubinsky. The latter seems a bit pretentious to us, but AC Cars is indeed making good progress.
All right, enough good intentions. First we can enjoy the Ace RS with petrol power. A 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 355 hp power serves in the Ace RS and that must of course be a Ford engine. It offers enough power to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds in style. You must first leave at least €105,655 converted at AC Cars. Mind you, that’s the UK price. Anyone who wants to import it here in the Netherlands will undoubtedly lose a lot more because of the bpm. And then there are the consequences of Brexit, which do not make importing any easier.
