Toyota Fortuner – Into the Wild

Toyota Fortuner – Into the Wild

Unfortunately, we do not know where this Toyota Fortuner comes from. What is clear is that it can only be a distant and unusual, with which this apparently everyday Toyota SUV suddenly becomes a true exotic.

A Dutch import car usually comes from Germany or another Western European country. If we look at the more exotic examples, popular topics of conversation in this section, we still regularly come across cars from the United States or – less often – Japan. We hardly ever see cars from outside Europe that do not come from America or Japan. Almost.

This Toyota Fortuner is therefore a true one-of-a-kind. The Fortuner, actually the SUV brother of the well-known HiLux pick-up here, was mainly intended for growth markets. It’s a workhorse in the style of the Land Cruiser Prado and it’s also about the same size as that car, but Toyota had a different market in mind with the ‘closed HiLux’. The Fortuner was delivered to South America, Egypt, South Africa, Australia and some Asian countries, but not to China or Japan.

The United Arab Emirates are actually the most obvious area of origin for this Dutch registered car, were it not for the fact that the Fortuner was never delivered there as diesel. With that, the UAE is again eliminated, because this car is definitely a diesel. The workhorse immediately appears here in its most luxurious and powerful form, as a fully loaded ‘V’ and with a thick three-liter D-4D under the hood.

It is a 2006 car, so it is a Fortuner of the first generation and from before the first facelift. He is simply left-hand drive, which means that a number of countries are eliminated, and the RDW actually assigned the small 18.2 number plates. A borderline case, we would almost say. The car has changed hands a few times since its import in 2011, but it still looks good.
