Migrate your Windows 7 PC to Windows 10 for free before Microsoft suspends support for its old operating system.
While Microsoft has just announced the end of support for Windows 7 by January 2020, users of this version of Windows will have to take steps to ensure that their machine is not vulnerable.
Rather than going to checkout to pay for a Windows 10 license, it is possible to upgrade from Windows 7 without a purse untied. This possibility was supposed to disappear several months ago, but it seems that Microsoft has retained, perhaps intentionally, this possibility.
Upgrading to Windows 10 will work from a Windows 7 computer, but should also be possible from machines running Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.
1. Download the update utility
On your Windows 7 PC, which should and should be connected to the Internet, download the Media Creation Tool for Windows 10, offered by Microsoft.
The utility allows, in principle, to create a bootable USB stick with which it is possible to install or repair Windows 10 on your PC. The program also offers the option to upgrade a PC running a version earlier than Windows 10.

2. Start the migration to Windows 10
Open the Media Creation Tool for Windows 10 and wait a few moments for the utility to prepare certain items. Click on Accept to validate the conditions and wait a few more seconds.
When the window What do you want to do ? appears, select Upgrade this PC now and click Next.
The utility will download and verify Windows 10. The tool will then indicate proceed to create a Windows 10 media. Wait several minutes for the utility to clean up and then restart.
When Windows 10 is ready for installation, the list of items to keep is displayed. Click Install to continue with the installation.
During the installation of Windows 10, the computer will restart several times.
