An update is coming for all-electric Volvos that not only makes battery management more efficient, but also brings an app that assists you in driving more economically.
Electric driving is almost a sport for some: getting as many kilometers as possible from the battery charge. Sometimes you can use some help with that. You can of course put most electric cars in an ‘eco mode’, but there are often notifications or apps that give you a push in the right direction to use the power more efficiently. Volvo’s ‘Range Assistant’ also does the latter. A beta version of that app will be available for electrically powered Volvos with the latest OTA update.
In addition to tips for more economical driving, the app can also operate things itself to save electricity. Think, for example, of adjusting the climate control in the car. Ultimately, with later releases, the app should also be able to learn from the regular driver’s driving habits and then give them tailored tips to get more out of a battery charge. Incidentally, owners of electric Volvos can expect a bit more driving range after the upcoming over-the-air update: the battery management system, regenerative braking and recharging will also become more efficient after the update.
