Change the configuration of your keyboard to enter accented capitals on Windows, without having to enter Unicode code.
Who has never struggled to find the solution to enter an accented letter in uppercase? While the keyboard mapping of UNIX systems (Linux, macOS, etc.) allows the entry of accented capitals very simply by activating the Caps Lock key, Windows is still confined to a system of codes that must be remembered for each of the accented letters. .
Rather than having to remember all these codes, it is possible to modify the mapping configuration of your keyboard. To save you the trouble of having to do this manually using Microsoft’s utility, Keyboard Layout Creator, we took the initiative to create a configuration file out of the box. Once installed on your machine, all the keys and combinations of keys and various keyboard shortcuts usually used remain functional.
1. Download French Keyboard with accented letters in uppercase
Start by downloading the installation file of the French keyboard with accented letters in uppercase on your computer.
This program, created by Christophe bertrand, not only allows you to enter French accented letters, but also offers the possibility to use accented Spanish characters in lowercase or uppercase.
Once the file has downloaded, unzip the file to a directory on your computer.

2. Install the program
Open the directory containing the elements of the archive you have just unzipped and double-click on Setup to start the installation. In the alert window that opens, click Yes.
The installation of the new keyboard is very quick and should be finished in an instant. Click Close to finish, and restart your computer.
3. Activate the French keyboard with accents
After your PC restarts, an icon for changing input methods appears at the bottom right of the taskbar.
Click on it, and select French Keyboard with Spanish Accents. By doing so, this keyboard layout will remain active until you restart your computer.
To keep your computer in this configuration, click on the icon dedicated to the input method, as seen previously, and click on Language preferences.
In the window dedicated to languages that appears, click on French then on Options.

All that should be left is the French keyboard with Spanish accents in the list of activated keyboards. Therefore, this keyboard will now be used by default.
4. Use accented capitals and special characters
To use accented capitals in French, simply activate the VerrMaj / Caps Lock key on your keyboard, and type on the keys é, è, ç, à, ù to obtain É, È, Ç, À, Ù.

By holding down the Shift + AltGr keys, you can enter accented letters in uppercase Á Ý Ú Í Ó Ñ
