The latest version of Google’s web browser includes a dark theme, which is hidden by default. Here is how to activate it and enjoy it on your Android smartphone.
Available for a few days on PC, Chrome 74 includes a dark mode disabled by default. The update of Google’s web browser, currently being deployed on Android, also takes advantage of this new functionality.
To take advantage of Chrome’s Dark Mode on Android, you must, as on Windows, access the menu dedicated to the browser’s experimental functions. After forcing the display of the menu concerned, you can activate it very easily from the Chrome settings.
1. Download Chrome 74
Start by checking that your web browser is up to date. The Dark Mode of Chrome on Android is only available from version 74 of the browser.
Open Android Settings, enter Apps & notifications, and tap Chrome. Expand the Advanced options and scroll through all the options. The last line indicates the version number of the browser.

2. Access the flags
Open Chrome on your smartphone and type chrome: // flags in the browser’s address bar.
In the search box, enter Chrome UI dark mode and change the Default parameter to Enabled. Relaunch the browser by pressing the Relaunch Now button.
3. Activate Dark Mode
After Chrome restarts, tap on the main menu and enter Browser Settings.
Then enter the Dark Mode menu to activate the function.
If the Dark Mode menu does not appear, force close Google Chrome and relaunch the application.
