The function to configure the automatic deletion of your activity on the web and Google applications is now available. Here’s how to activate it.
Google announced a few weeks ago the implementation of a new feature allowing its users to automate the deletion of personal data collected on the web, within applications, as well as travel history.
The automatic deletion module is now officially deployed. To access it, you will need to log into your Google account, on the My activity page which logs the history of all your actions on the web and Google applications.
Unless you completely disable logging of your activities, Google keeps all of your actions until you manually delete them. The new automatic deletion module makes it possible to limit the retention of your data for 3 or 18 months before they are automatically deleted.
1. Log in to Google My Activity
Go to the page first Google My activity and click Sign In to sign in to your Google Account if you haven’t already.
2. Access your activities
In the left column, click the Activity Commands menu.
In the window that appears, click Manage History to access all of your web and application activity.
3. Activate automatic deletion
Natively, Google indicates that your activity is kept until you delete it manually. Click Choose to delete automatically.
In the window that appears, select the length of time you want your personal data to be kept before it is automatically deleted, and click Next.
In the next window, Google asks you to confirm how long your data will be kept before being deleted. Click on Confirm.
Your preferences are now saved, click OK to validate the changes.
Using the various tools and services it offers, Google records a great deal of other personal data that is not included in the automatic deletion module.
However, you can change your account settings to prevent Google from recording your online activities and manually delete data already collected.
