The VLC media player includes a subtitle download module. Find out how to easily retrieve the caption of the movie you are watching.
Watching a film in its original version and understanding all of the dialogues of the different characters is not for everyone. For non-polyglots who would start reading a movie in a language they do not master, or at least not completely, on their PC, the VLC multimedia player can very easily get them out of this bad situation.
The software, which is full of often unrecognized features, includes an option to download the subtitles of a video being played. With just a few clicks, a film in its original version can be subtitled, without you having to do almost anything other than to sit comfortably in your armchair.
Also to discover in video:
1. Launch the movie in VLC
Start by launching the movie you want to get the subtitles for in VLC. If VideoLAN’s media player is configured as the default player for your videos, you should only have to double click on the video file.
If not, open VLC and drag and drop the video file into the player window to start playing it.
2. Enter VLsub
Now click on the View menu, then enter the VLsub menu.

In the VLsub window that appears, click on the Subtitles languages drop-down menu to select the language of the subtitles you want to obtain, in our case french for subtitles in French. Two options are then offered to launch the search for subtitles: Search by Hash to search for subtitles based on the digital fingerprint of your video file, or Search by name to search for subtitles by directly typing the name of the film in the Title field provided for this purpose.

3.Download the subtitles
Then locate the line of subtitles whose name corresponds to the movie you are watching and click on it to select it. Then click on the Download selection button to retrieve the subtitles. VLsub displays a Success: Subtitles loaded message in green after the subtitles are successfully downloaded.
Usually, the subtitle file in .srt format with the same name as your movie file has been saved in the same directory where the movie is stored. Then click Close to close VLsub.

4. Activate the subtitles
Now click on the Subtitles menu then in Subtitle track, select the subtitles you just downloaded. You will see multiple subtitle tracks appear if you’ve uploaded multiple different files.

The function can be a little capricious at times, so feel free to relaunch VLC, restart movie playback and select your subtitle track again to see them appear on the screen.
