In the Czech Republic, people have once again been enthusiastically behind the drawing board. Skoda presents us with design sketches of a Kamiq dressed as a rally monster and of a modern interpretation of the 200 RS.
Every year, a group of students from the Skoda Academy set to work building an often crazy car. Last year the study balls in the form of the Slavia presented a cut open Skoda Scala and this year the body of a Kamiq has to pay the price. The eighth so-called Student Car Skoda is in fact a rally gun converted version of the Kamiq that will be called Azubi.
Skoda only shows the rally-Kamiq in sketch form for the time being. We see a heavily spoilered car with firmly attached wheel arches. The students will receive help from experts from Skoda Motorsport, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, while building the rally-Kamiq. Don’t look crazy on the Azubi which is not a five-door, but a three-door.
Previous idiosyncratic models designed by students at the Skoda Academy included the Slavia, the Citijet, the Funstar, the Atero, the Element, the Sunroq and the Mountiaq.
200 RS 2021
There’s more sketching fun coming from Mlada Boleslav. Under the heading ‘Icons get a makeover’, Skoda has been letting its design team go wild for some time with modern interpretations of classic models of the brand. The latest old Czech to be translated to the present is the 200 RS. The 200 RS you see in these sketches comes from the creative mind of Daniel Petr, a designer who designs, among other things, racing and rally versions of Skodas for the brand. The 200 RS was a prototype based on the 110 R that, due to changes in the regulations, was never able to show its tricks on the rally courses, although the car did result in the 130 RS well-known in Skoda’s motorsport portfolio.
The modern interpretation of the 200 RS is a sleek coupé with a similar color scheme to the 1974 original. The version drawn by Petr has LED headlights, an air scoop on the roof and, of course, looks much more aggressive than the car he winks at. According to the designer, the reborn 200 RS should have “a combustion engine anyway”, assisted by electrical power. So a hybrid. There are no actual production plans.
