In the Netherlands you can find the Tesla Model 3 on almost every street corner. Tesla is also doing very good business outside the Dutch borders. The Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling car in Europe in September.
Figures from Jato Dynamics show that the Tesla Model 3 was the most popular car in the 26 European countries of the Schengen area. In total, Tesla managed to sell no fewer than 24,591 Models 3, 54 percent more than in the same month last year. It is the first time that an electric car takes the lead in the monthly European sales statistics. In addition, it is the first time that a non-European manufacturer has claimed the number one position. Small side note: Tesla usually ships its cars at the end of each quarter, which means that the deliveries of the brand around that period are often higher than in other months.
Last month, the Renault Clio was the most popular car in Europe after the Tesla Model 3. 18,264 copies were registered, 23 percent less than in the same month last year. In third place is the Dacia Sandero, the popular Romanian of which, with 17,899 units sold last month, 9 percent less were sold than in September 2020.
Logically, Tesla’s Model 3 also turned out to be the best-selling EV of September in September, followed by the Model Y with 8,926 sold. In the third position of the best-selling electric cars in Europe in September is the Volkswagen ID3. The Dacia Spring, just like younger EVs such as the Volkswagen ID4 and the Skoda Enyaq iV, is entering the Top 10.
More striking figures: Nearly 47 percent of new passenger cars sold in Europe last month were SUVs or crossovers.
