Check in seconds, the compatibility of your favorite applications with macOS Catalina before launching the update of your Mac.
The arrival of macOS Catalina signals the death of 32-bit applications. Apple’s latest operating system update is, in fact, only capable of running 64-bit applications.
The only problem is that many long-time users run the risk of having old 32-bit applications on their machines.
Before you jump head-to-head in updating your machine, check if the oldest applications you use every day will still work in Catalina, at the risk of seeing an error message appear when you try to open them.
1. Access System Information
Start your Mac, click on Apple and go to About this mac.

At the bottom of the window, click System Report to get a full report of your machine configuration.

2. Check application compatibility
Scroll through all the options displayed in the side column, then in the Software section, click on Applications.
In your machine’s main report window, locate the 64-bit column and browse it. Applications indicating No in the 64-bit column will not be compatible with macOS Catalina.

If switching to Catalina is not for you and you absolutely want to keep your old 32-bit applications, skip your turn.
On the other hand, if you absolutely want to install the latest version of macOS on your machine, first check if the publisher of your old applications offers an update ensuring support for Catalina.
Otherwise, you will have no choice but to opt for alternative solutions or to wait, hoping that the developers deign to offer an update of their applications in 64 bits.
