Install Google Chrome extensions on the new version of Microsoft Edge, based on Chromium.
The new version of Microsoft Edge, based on Chromium, has been officially available to everyone for a few days. Microsoft’s new web browser architecture therefore borrows many elements from Google Chrome.
Although it has its own catalog of extensions, the new Edge is also capable of running all of Google’s browser extensions. The feature, which is not enabled by default, allows you to download and install any extension directly from the Chrome Web Store. Here’s how to activate it.
- Download Microsoft Edge for Windows 10 (Free)
- Download Microsoft Edge for Windows 7/8 (Free)
- Download Microsoft Edge for macOS (Free)
- Download Microsoft Edge for Android (Free)
- Download Microsoft Edge for iPhone (Free)
1. Access the extensions menu
Launch Edge on your machine, click on the main menu represented by three small dots, and go to the menu dedicated to Extensions.

2. Allow extensions from other stores
In the window that appears, expand the Extensions menu at the top left, and activate the Allow extensions from other stores option.

Validate your choice by clicking on Authorize.
3. Install the Chrome extensions
Then go directly to the Chrome Web Store to download the Google Chrome extensions.
- Go to the Chrome Web Store (Free)
A blue banner indicating that you can now install extensions should be displayed at the top of the window.

Find the extension you want to install on Microsoft Edge and click the Add to Chrome button.
The extension, in principle intended to work on Google Chrome, should be installed without a hitch on the new version of Microsoft’s web browser.
