Electric pick-ups are a rarity in Europe, but in the US it seems that they will soon be thrown to death. Another new player is added: Edison Future.

Forget Faraday Future, a new player in the auto industry is using another iconic smartass for its brand name: Edison Future. The as-yet-unknown new brand, part of Hong Kong-based SPI Energy, is making a statement with a huge series of photos showing two promising models, the EF1-T and EF1-V. Basically, a pickup and a van that share their base.

The EF1-T is most reminiscent of a somewhat more conservative alternative to the Tesla Cybertruck. It looks anything but crazy, the EF1-T also looks serious and contemporary on the inside. The most special thing, however, is the roof. This is optionally completely covered with solar panels and can also be stretched out over the loading platform. Then you transform the EF1-T into a kind of huge SUV with a sloping roofline. The purpose of this is simple: this way you can top up more with solar power and the cargo in the back remains protected against grabbing crooks.

Edison Future

Edison Future has not yet released very concrete technical information, although it does report that there will be three versions. The basic version (Standard) has one electric motor, can accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 6.5 seconds and tow a whopping 3,400 kg. The version above (Premium) has two engines, takes only 4.5 seconds to complete the same sprint and even pulls 3,628 kg. The top version, called Super, has two or three engines – apparently they don’t know that yet – and can reach 97 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The maximum towing weight of that version is an impressive 3,855 kilos. As mentioned, not much else is known yet, so we also owe you the driving range for the time being.

Then there is the EF1-V, where the ‘V’ of course stands for ‘Van’. It is just as long as the EF1-T, only it has a huge enclosed cargo space behind the front seats instead of three spacious seats. There will be two versions, the Standard and the Long Range. Edison Future only says for the time being that both can accelerate to 97 km/h in 6.5 seconds and that they can tow 3,400 kg and 3,628 kg respectively. As we often say with newcomers like this: we’re going to experience it.
