Disney + is finally available in France. There is a lot of Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars content available to all subscribers, but it is possible to take advantage of the platform by changing some of its settings. We explain how to take full advantage of the new service.
Download your Disney + content in the quality of your choice, change the color or size of the subtitles or even activate a profile dedicated to the youngest, it is possible to do much more on the new SVOD service than watching the episodes of Simpson one after the other. Indeed, although very young, the platform already has a few options that improve the user experience. This article is intended to explain each of these features and help you take advantage of them.

This file is of course set to evolve as Disney adds features to its platform. But in the meantime, it is already possible to have fun and enrich your viewing experience with some very useful features.
Download an episode to enjoy it offline
Like Netflix, Disney + is an online streaming service. Does this mean that when you are in airplane mode or without an Internet connection, the platform cannot be used? Not quite. As long as you have been planning ahead, it is possible to download its content beforehand so that it is accessible offline, at any time.
To download a film or an episode of a series, all you have to do is click on its file, first, then on the download icon. All the content visible offline can be found in the download section of your application. Disney + does not currently indicate how long they are available. Of course, this feature is available on smartphones and tablets, but not on computers.
Choose the quality of downloaded movies and series
Disney + does not only offer the downloading of its content. It also allows you to choose the quality at which you want to view them and therefore the space they will occupy in your storage space.
Indeed, the platform allows to choose between three levels of video quality (standard, medium or high), without more precision as for the compression or even the final image quality. Thus, the size of an episode of The Mandalorian, of approximately the same duration, can vary from 302 MB (standard quality) to 1.12 GB (high quality) through 631 MB (medium quality).
On the other hand, the positive point is that Disney + automatically calculates the number of episodes that you will be able to download according to your storage capacity and the chosen quality.
Create a child profile
A streaming platform that is so dedicated to the family must have parental control options. In this case, the management tools dedicated to parents are absent from Disney +. The latter are only offered a simple child mode which applies a rather coarse content selection filter. However, although it lacks options to sort content or to limit screen time, this child profile is still useful and can be activated very easily.
- Click on the profile icon, and choose the option “add a profile”.
- Once you have chosen your icon and the name of the user, just click on “Children Profile” to activate the default protection.
Therefore, the appearance of Disney + will change for this profile with the absence of the most mature content (Marvel and Star Wars among others). Finally, note that for the moment, no restriction allows a user of a protected profile to switch back to another classic profile.
Disable auto-play episodes
As with Netflix in its day, a default option allows you to launch a new episode of a current series, as soon as the previous one is finished. AutoPlay isn’t for everyone, and that’s why Disney + allows this feature to be turned off. To achieve this, all you have to do is click on your profile icon and choose the option “modify profiles”.
All you have to do is click on the profile to modify and deactivate the “automatic reading” option, which is one of the two features offered in this sub-section.
Change the size and color of the subtitles
This very fun option, which can also sting the eyes, is unfortunately only available on the browser version of Disney +.
Indeed, once the reading of a content has started, it is possible to change the language and the subtitles in a fairly standard way by clicking on the settings at the top right of your screen.
But if you watch Disney + on your browser, another menu of options is available. This allows you to change the font, size and also the color of the subtitles. It is also possible to add a colored background to make your session a little more kitsch. Unfortunately, these changes no longer appear once Disney + is launched through another device either on the TV or smartphone.

Take advantage of bonuses
It is one of the “hidden” riches of Disney +. The platform not only provides a wide variety of content, it also offers access to a number of additional videos, even those that are found in the menus of DVDs and other Blu-rays.
The various films offered on the platform are full of cut scenes and making-of easily accessible. All you have to do is go to a content and click on the “Bonus” tab. In the case of a series like The Mandalorian, this category is limited to a trailer but you just have to dive into the bonuses of Pixar animated films, to be amazed.
