Use the various tools of Google’s online office suite as stand-alone applications, without going through your web browser.
If you frequently use the various tools in Google’s online office suite, it’s a safe bet that some of the documents opened in your browser end up lost among dozens of other tabs.
To avoid this kind of inconvenience, some will decide to open Google tools in a different web browser than the one they usually use. But it is also possible to use a third-party tool, G Desktop Suite, software using the Electron JS framework, and thanks to which Google’s tools are encapsulated in a separate window giving G suite the appearance of a desktop application.
Unlike use in a classic browser, this solution has the advantage of allowing the user to open each new document in a new window, like in a real office suite.
1. Download G Desktop Suite
First, download G Desktop Suite to your computer. Available on Windows, macOS and Linux, this open source application is completely free.
- Download G Desktop Suite for Windows (Free)
- Download G Desktop Suite for macOS (Free)
- Download G Desktop Suite for Linux (Free)
2. Log in
Once G Desktop Suite is installed on your machine, launch it. The interface for connecting to your Google account is displayed. Log in using your credentials. G Desktop Suite should then display the main page of your Google Drive

3. Use G suite as a stand-alone application
Now you just have to use the tools of the Google office suite as you usually do.
Your documents remain saved on your Google Drive, and each new document created will open a new G Desktop Suite window on your computer.

You will no longer need to launch your web browser and navigate through the different open tabs to find the right document.
