Do some cleaning up on your Xiaomi smartphone by disabling the display of unwanted ads.
The smartphones of the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi have a rather good reputation. With a quality / price ratio that is often unbeatable with regard to the configuration they offer, they have been able to meet their audience and attract as many people as possible. But to offer these devices at such attractive prices, some concessions had to be made.
The Chinese manufacturer has thus chosen to integrate advertising within these devices, in particular in its MIUI overlay, but also in its preinstalled applications. Fortunately, after a few fairly simple, but tedious manipulations, it is possible to deactivate certain parameters to limit the unexpected display of ads when you use your smartphone.
To write these lines, the operations were carried out on a Redmi Note 8T running MIUI 11. They should however work on all Xiaomi terminals, with perhaps in some cases, some differences to find the menus. Here’s how to do it.
1. Disable MIUI System Ads
Open Settings, enter the Passwords & Security menu, scroll through the options and navigate to Authorization and Revocation.
Locate the msa application (MIUI System Ads), uncheck the option and wait a few moments for the countdown in seconds displayed on the Revoke button to finish.
Then press the Revoke button to prevent the app from collecting data.
After disabling this application, integrated in all Xiaomi smartphones, Restart your device. The majority of the advertisements should then be gone.
2. Disable personalized advertising recommendations
By default, Xiaomi makes sure in MIUI to collect certain data, in particular the usage habits of each, to offer better targeted advertisements. If disabling personalized recommendations does not remove the ad, it will at least prevent you from being spied on for your uses.
To do this, go to Settings, then in Passwords & Security where you should find a menu dedicated to Privacy.
Scroll down to the User Experience Program section, and access the Ad Services menu. Turn off the Custom ad recommendation option.
3. Disable ads in Xiaomi apps
If you don’t use any of the Xiaomi apps preinstalled on your smartphone, you’ve probably missed out on a good deal of display advertising on your smartphone.
Several applications installed natively on the Chinese manufacturer’s smartphones display an advertising page before being able to access the content. If there is a button “Skip“to pass the ad, you will have to go to the settings of each application by displaying to deactivate the option.

Navigator
There is little chance that you will use it, but if so, open the Navigator (Mi browser), installed natively on your smartphone. Tap the hamburger menu at the top right and enter Settings by tapping on the cogwheel icon. Then enter Privacy & Security and deactivate Personalized Services. Then go back to Settings and enter the Advanced menu. Disable the Add Ads option.

Security
Open the app and go to Settings by tapping on the star wheel icon. Find the Recommendations section and turn it off.

Music
Open the app and go to Settings by tapping on the icon at the top right. Then enter the Advanced settings and deactivate the option Receive recommendations.
- Downloads
Launch the Downloads manager, open the main menu and enter Settings. Uncheck the option Show recommended content and confirm by pressing OK
- Themes
The Themes application also carries some advertisements. To deactivate them, open the application and go to a login page represented by a silhouette. Then enter Settings and deactivate the Recommendations option.
