The new version of the iPhone operating system now allows you to replace the Mail application with another default client. Here’s how.
iOS 14 is now officially available for all iPhones starting with the iPhone 6s. Its installation is done directly from the iOS Settings, in the General section where you will find the menu dedicated to Software Update.
If the new features of iOS 14 are numerous, there is one that should particularly appeal to users accustomed to using a third-party mail client. In the same way that it is now possible to configure another default web browser, iOS 14 gives users the option of setting a different default email client than Mail.
However, to take advantage of it, the publisher of the email client in question must update its application so that it includes this option. At the time of writing, Microsoft Outlook, for example, is one of the first applications to offer this possibility.
1. Open settings
Start by opening the iOS Settings and scroll through all the options displayed until you reach those dedicated to the applications installed on your device. Locate the option menu of the mail client that you want to use by default and enter it.

In our case, we want to configure Outlook as the default email client.

2. Change the default email client
In the email client settings, enter the Default email app menu and select your email client.

You can then close iOS Settings and get back to your business. Now, when you try to send an email by clicking on a “mailto:” link, the email application that should open by default will no longer be Mail but the application you have chosen.
For now, however, the function seems to be prone to a bug since, on our test iPhone, the application that opens by default remains Mail.
