’80 percent driving schools closed due to coronavirus’

Given the current circumstances, it was unfortunately thick, but the coronavirus also has major consequences for driving schools. According to RijschoolPro, the magazine for the driving school industry, four out of five driving schools have closed their (car) doors because of the corona virus.

Eighty percent of driving schools are currently closed. This is evident from a survey conducted by the RijschoolPro magazine among approximately 900 of its readers. According to the trade magazine, about eighty percent of the respondents are independent driving instructors, the remainder have their own company with several employees.

The reasons for temporarily closing doors are all related to the corona virus that is also gripping the Netherlands. Many respondents consider the risk of contamination to be too great because the guideline imposed by RIVM to keep a distance of 1.5 meters in the car cannot be guaranteed. There are also respondents who themselves have complaints regarding their health. Others indicate that they themselves fall into the risk group of the virus. Of course there is also a part that, possibly due to financial necessity, will continue to drive until the government removes this possibility with a possible total ban. Striking result: According to RijschoolPro, 4 percent of the respondents indicate that they do not or hardly suffer from the corona crisis. Pupils would request extra lessons now that they have more time to get behind the wheel due to the closure of schools, among other things.

Whether there is training or not, driving is not possible for the time being. The CBR recently indicated that it would not conduct tests and driving tests until March 31 at least.
