The Google Photo Library itself selects the photos from the Memories displayed at the top of the app. However, it is possible to select the memories you want to see and hide the others.
Since September 2019, Google Photos allows you to dive back into your memories of past years through its Memories. Those stories, which include photos of your past moments are automatically generated by the application. The photos and videos found there are therefore chosen directly by Google’s algorithms.
If you use this feature on a daily basis, you have certainly happened to drop photos with people you no longer necessarily want to see, or in times that you would rather forget. Never mind, the content embedded in the memories of Google Photos can, in part, be selected to better meet your expectations.

1. Select the memories to receive
Open Google Photos, tap on your profile picture, go to the app’s Settings and enter the Memories section.
Then access the Selection of memories menu. You can then choose to activate / deactivate the photos and videos taken the same week during the previous Years, the photos and videos of the last weeks displayed in the Selection of the moment, or the thematic Memories composed of photos and videos having for subject specific people, places or themes.
2. Hide people from your memories
When you look at your memories on a daily basis, you may not want certain people to appear. Google Photos has an option that lets you Hide a person. To do this, tap on your profile picture, and go to the Settings of the application.
Then enter Memories and go to the section to Hide people and animals. You will then only have to select the faces of the people you do not want to appear in the memories generated by Google Photos.
Be careful, however, to hide faces, you must first activate the face recognition function of Google Photos.
3. Hide a date or a period
Likewise, Google photos allows you to hide certain dates or periods that you do not want to be reminded of. To do this, go back to the Google Photos Settings, enter the Memories menu, and go to the Hide dates section.
Then tap Add dates, and set the time period for which you don’t want Google Photos to generate memories. Then validate the period by pressing the OK button.
4. Choose the creations to incorporate into the memories
In some memories generated by Google photos, the application can in some cases automatically create Animations, Montages, Moving Photos, etc.
If you don’t want to see these creations added to your memories, go to Google Photos Settings, then in the Memories menu, go to Advanced Settings. You can then select the automatic creations that should not appear in your memories.
5. Customize notifications
For each memory generated by Google photos, the application will send you notifications. You can deactivate these notifications by going to Google Photos Settings, then in Memories, by accessing the dedicated Notifications menu.
Among the notifications linked to memories, you can deactivate those concerning previous Years, thematic memories, or even Creations.
As this section is unique for all Google Photos notifications, you can take the opportunity to turn off those you don’t think are necessary such as Sharing Suggestions, Impression Promotions, Photo Book Suggestions, and much more.
