Change your iPhone or iPad settings to prohibit in-app purchases and avoid unpleasant surprises.
While Face ID is pretty good at unlocking your iPhone, Apple’s security system can sometimes backfire on you. Usually configured to validate purchases on iTunes and the App Store, Face ID can sometimes confirm an in-app purchase a little too quickly that you didn’t necessarily intend to make.
While it’s entirely possible to get a refund for an accidental App Store purchase from Apple, you can avoid unpleasant surprises by turning off in-app purchases by default. Especially to avoid finding yourself like this American family forced to pay $ 16,000 in in-app purchases in one and the same game … Here is how to proceed.
1. Activate Screen Times
Start by opening iPhone Settings. Then enter the Screen Time menu, and if you haven’t already, activate the function.

2. Activate restrictions
From the main Screen Time window, go to the Content & Privacy menu and choose to Enable Restrictions.

3. Disable in-app purchases
Then enter the Purchase menu in the iTunes and App Store, then go to the In-App Purchases menu.

Choose the Do not allow option and close iPhone Settings. Now, when you attempt to make an in-app purchase, iOS will automatically decline. If you are not used to doing it, it won’t change anything for you.
However, if you happen to need to purchase content within an app, you will need to temporarily disable this block. Then, as seen in step 2, you just have to deactivate the restrictions.
