Later this month, Kia will present the concept version of the EV9, the big brother of the all-electric EV6. The first addition to Kia’s EV family is a hefty SUV.
Kia is currently scoring high with the all-electric EV6. A clean-lined EV on the modular E-GMP platform developed by the Hyundai Motor Group for an all-electric model offensive. The EV6 already has family in the form of the closely related Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Genesis GV60, but of course it doesn’t stop there. Hyundai will come next with the Ioniq 7, a large electric SUV. Kia is once again following in the footsteps of its sister brand and launching the EV9. Also a good boy.
As the EV6 was Kia’s answer to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, we expect the Kia EV9 to compare to the Hyundai Ioniq 7. After all, in this first teaser image we see that the Kia EV9, just like the Hyundai Ioniq 7, will be quite a chunky SUV. In addition, Kia hangs slightly higher figures on its electric models than Hyundai. After all, the EV6 is next to the Ioniq 5, so the EV9 can stand next to the Ioniq 7 in that regard. Don’t quote us on that, though.
What is absolutely certain is that we will see more on Thursday 11 November. Then Kia presents the EV9 Concept. Not yet the production model, that may have to wait until 2023 or even 2024. If we look at the possibilities with the E-GMP platform, we can count on an SUV with a power from around 300 hp and a WLTP range of 500 km or more. It is also very likely that the EV9 will be a seven-seater, just like the Hyundai Ioniq 7, so that may be interesting news for the larger families among us.
