Yamaha Announces 2022 MT-10

It’s been a long wait, but Yamaha has finally announced the updated version of the MT-10. In addition to a new design, the 2022 MT-10 has a slightly stronger block, an improved chassis, the latest generation of electronics and better ergonomics.

Yamaha Announces 2022 MT-10

They are proud at Yamaha of the MT family that started with the MT-01 (and MT-03) but only became really successful after the “Dark Side of Japan” concept with the MT- 09 and MT-07 was launched, followed by an MT-03 and MT-125 on the underside and an MT-10 as a new flagship, which was added to the MT family in 2017 and of which there are now more than 290,000 in Europe sold.

The MT-10 is the last model of the MT family that Yamaha has now adapted to Euro 5, but Yamaha emphasizes that this has certainly not come at the expense of power. The new block now features aluminum forged pistons, offset connecting rods and direct coated cylinders for maximum efficiency.

According to Yamaha, the petrol injection settings have been changed to generate higher torque between 4,000 and 8,000 rpm, but leave the press release in the middle how big those values are now. Yamaha also states that fuel consumption has improved, CO2 emissions have been reduced and that the block is more powerful, without mentioning values.

According to British colleagues, the power has grown from 160 hp to 164 hp. That’s nice, but it still doesn’t come close to the Hypernaked generation. The only two models that the MT-10 now dominates are the CB1000R and the GSX-S1000, but so was its predecessor.

Yamaha claims to have done a lot of sound engineering to make the 2022 MT-10 sound even fatter, by using three intake cups in the airbox with different lengths and cross-sections, each of which produces its own intake sound, to resonate harmoniously at different speeds. . This sound must be sent to the rider via acoustic amplifier grilles to the left and right of the tank.

Yamaha has not made any earth-shattering changes to the bicycle part. The wheelbase has been extended by 5 mm to 1.405 mm, furthermore Yamaha speaks of improved KYB suspension front and rear, but again this is not substantiated. As far as the brakes are concerned, Yamaha has now applied a Brembo brake pump.

In contrast to the chassis, the designers have completely overhauled the styling of the 2022 MT-10, but fortunately have not followed the ‘Alien look’ of the rest of the MT family, which in our view is ugly and ugly. We even dare to say that this MT-10 looks quite desirable.

From the saddle you look out on the same 4.2″ TFT color display as the R1. According to Yamaha, the so-called rider triangle, the ratio between footrests, saddle and handlebars, has been improved, but again – even now it remains unmentioned what exactly those adjustments are.

In terms of electronics, the MT-10 features the well-known 6-axis IMU, lean angle dependent traction control, slide control, wheelie control, electronic engine brake, adjustable speed limiter, cornering ABS and Yamaha Ride Control.

The 2022 MT-10 comes in three colors: Cyan Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black. Available from April 2022, price to be announced later.
