Acura presents the Integra Prototype. A pretty production-ready concept car that shows what can be expected from the next generation Integra.

The name Integra traditionally stands for a slick lined model on a Honda Civic basis that is just a bit flashier than the Civic. The last car to bear the name was the coupé, sold in the US as the Acura RSX, which was known as the Integra in its home country of Japan and also in Australia. Then it remained silent for fifteen years, until Honda recently dusted off the Integra name for the Chinese market. That Honda Integra was a bit of a disappointment to those expecting something spectacular, as it was little more than a slightly modified Civic sedan. However, there will also be an Acura Integra, mainly intended for the US, and as we can see from the prototype presented now, it is a bit more true to history.

The Acura Integra will be a clearly different story than the Civic. We see a five-door liftback that not only looks much sportier than the Civic, but will also focus more on sporty performance in terms of technology. Acura already reports that a blown 1.5 petrol engine with VTEC will be available in the production version, optionally linked to a six-speed manual transmission. It is probably the 200 hp 1.5 that also comes to the American Honda Civic Si. In order to distribute the forces evenly over the front wheels during rougher steering, the Integra also gets a differential lock. After all, Brembo brakes should be able to calm things down properly.

The Acura Integra that you see here, painted in the same ‘Indy Yellow Pearl’ as the Integra Type R from the beginning of this century, is not yet the production version. Acura will probably present it at the beginning of 2022. You do not have to count on that much will change, that was not the case with the concept version of the Civic. Acura dealers in the US will receive the new Integra in the showroom in the first half of 2022. They don’t have to come far: the Acura Integra is the first Integra to be built entirely in the United States. In the Netherlands, as you probably expected, we don’t have to expect the new Integra.
