Ford is plugging in the Transit and is taking on the battle with the E-Transit in the increasingly crowded range of electric delivery vans. The specifications of the electric Transit were already known, now Ford is also releasing the first prices.

The fully electric E-Transit will be on the market in three versions: as a delivery van, idem with a double cabin and as a chassis cabin, which means that a third party can provide a completely customized body. Various length or height variants are available for each version, bringing the total to no fewer than 25 different versions. In addition, Ford supplies the E-Transit with two versions of the electric motor: with 184 hp or 269 hp. The maximum torque is 430 Nm. In terms of battery capacity, Ford still offers one option in the form of a battery pack of 67 kWh. The maximum WLTP range is 317 kilometers.

The cheapest variant of the E-Transit is the chassis cabin as L3 Ambiente. For this you have to leave €48,675 excluding VAT and bpm at the Ford dealer. The more luxurious Trend should fetch €50,350. The closed van has a slightly more expensive starting price at €49,050. For that money you get it as 350 L2 Ambiente, the Trend is available from €51,100. The Ambiente is standard equipped with, among other things, the SYNC 4 infotainment system with 12-inch touchscreen, Keyless Start, heated front seats and automatic air conditioning. The Trend adds a number of safety systems to that equipment, including Pre-Collision Assist, Lane Departure Warning and parking sensors all around. Do you want the more powerful electric motor? Then you have to add another €2,150 to the above prices. Ford will announce the prices of the other versions at a later stage.

Competition

With the E-Transit, Ford jumps into a fairly hard-fought segment. The electric Transit will have to compete with its size with, for example, the Peugeot e-Boxer, Citroën ë-Jumper, Opel Movano-e, Volkswagen e-Crafter, Renault Master ZE and the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter. However, the competitor that most closely resembles the Transit is the Maxus eDeliver9, which, with its 52 kWh battery pack, can carry considerably less power than the Ford. The Stellantis trio is available with a battery pack of 70 kWh, which in theory yields a slightly higher WLTP range of 340 kilometers. The eCrafter and eSprinter lag considerably behind in that area with a WLTP range of 115 and 168 kilometers respectively. The base price of the eCrafter is now under 50 grand, just like that of the Ford, but it is clear that the electric Transit offers much more value for money in that case.
