From a beautiful Opel Commodore Coupé to two apparently abandoned Renaults 4, from a Simca 1000 to a neat Ford Sierra. Everything is covered in this section. Today it is the turn of this once ordinary Volkswagen Passat.
This Volkswagen Passat is one of the ‘funny that it is still there’ category. The Passat B3 will probably never become a beloved classic and no doubt most will walk past it without batting an eyelid, but here at AutoWeek we know when something nice is parked. AutoWeek forum member HarmenA knows that too, because he took these two photos and shared them in the What did you see for special today topic.
We’re talking about a Volkswagen Passat like you took it with you at the dealer in 1992 if it wasn’t allowed to cost too much. Here we see a Passat 1.8 CL that was just not the entry-level in 1992. Only the nameless version with the 75 hp 1.8 in the nose and the also called CL version with the same power source were still under it. This CL has the 90 hp version of the 1.8 on board. The fact that the Passat does not have bumpers painted in body color and has orange blinkers and simple hubcaps, nevertheless betrays that it is a simple version.
So nice that such an exchangeable Passat is still there after almost 30 years. After all, the majority of the Passats B3 has gone abroad or has disappeared to the scrap yard and really only for the VR6 and G60 are real enthusiasts to be found. However, there is a good explanation as to why this simple CL is still there. Here it comes: it has been with its current owner for 26 (!) years. He is apparently completely attached to it. Delicious isn’t it?
