Renault shuts down South American production

The spread of the coronavirus is now also becoming clear in South America. Renault has therefore decided to halt production on that continent.

After China, Europe and North America, it is now also the turn of South America in terms of corona infections. There is also a huge amount of car industry and especially Renault has many production facilities. The French brand has factories in four countries. All of them are now temporarily inactive to limit the spread of the virus. That makes Renault known.

The total of seven factories in Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Chile are operational from today until further notice. According to Renault, no fewer than 9,000 employees are involved in this temporary stop. Strikingly enough, no hard target date has yet been mentioned for when production will be restarted. After such data has often not proved feasible in China, Europe and the US, Renault has omitted this. “Production will resume as soon as conditions permit,” said Renault.

Renault is well represented in the South American market. After Europe, it is even the most important market for the French brand. Renault is doing particularly well in Brazil. This stop is extra painful, but of course sensible for safety reasons.
