After various update rounds of the model presented in 2011, Ford is launching a completely new Ranger on car land. More than ever, the new Ford Ranger resembles its big brother F-150 and will be launched on the Dutch market at the beginning of 2023.
Commercial vehicles generally have a longer lifespan than conventional passenger cars, so it’s no surprise that the current generation of Ford Rangers has been around for ten years. Yet ten years is enough, because Ford now comes with a Ranger to the smallest bolt renewed.
The new Ranger was developed under the leadership of the Australian branch of Ford, but the appearance of its big brother F-150 is also known there. That seeps through to Ford’s competitor of cars such as the Toyota Hilux and is also reminiscent of that of the smaller Maverick, which is also not available in Europe. The new Ranger has a square, sturdy nose with large C-shaped headlights that are split by a strip that extends from the grille. Those headlights are also optionally available with LED matrix technology. The design of the rear is not too surprising, as is usual with pick-ups. The light signature of the taillights somewhat follows that of the front ones in the large model name printed under a fold in the tailgate.
Of course, the interior of the Ranger also moves with the times. The tough-looking whole includes vertically oriented air vents and a 10.1 and optional 12-inch large vertically placed infotainment system. Behind the wheel is a digital instrumentation. The interior is endowed with various storage compartments, so you can, among other things, lose luggage under and behind the rear seat. The body is covered with a strong plastic and Ford places various attachment points there and brings dividers to the body that prevent things from moving from hot to her while driving.
The Ranger’s wheelbase increases by 5 centimeters to 3.28 meters compared to that of the outgoing model. The track width of the pick-up also increases by the same number of centimeters. Ford brings, among other things, a 3.0 V6 diesel engine to the Ranger, but also puts 2.0 four-cylinder diesels with a single and two turbos on the engine list. Ford supplies the Ranger, among other things, with permanent four-wheel drive and with electronically selectable four-wheel drive.
Although Ford is already highlighting the new Ranger from all sides, we have to be patient in the Netherlands. Ford will not open the order books for the new pickup until the end of 2022 and the first deliveries are not planned until early 2023. The new Ranger will be available in XLT, Wildtrak and Sport trim and will eventually also get a fierce Raptor variant.
