Save Google Photos to PC

Google Photos manages your photo collection online. But how do you transfer one or more photos to the computer?

Google Photos is pre-eminently a program that makes videos and photos accessible for all your devices. Since they are stored online, any device with internet access can access them. For example, you can save one or more photos and entire albums from Google Photos on the PC.

How to get a photo or video to the computer via Google Photos:

  • surf to Google Photos and log in if you are not logged in.
  • If necessary, click on the left on photos to get to the overview of all images.
  • Move the mouse pointer over the photo.
  • A check mark will appear on the photo. Click on this check mark.
  • Click the ‘More options’ icon in the top right. Those are the three vertical dots.
  • click on To download.

The photo is now on the computer in the ‘Downloads’ folder.

Similarly, download multiple photos at once. Then just select multiple photos. Is it a lot of photos? Then there’s another trick. Photos brings together images from a particular day. For example, above a series of photos you see ‘Tues 24 Aug.’.

  • Move the mouse pointer over the date.
  • A check mark appears next to the date. Click on that and all photos from that date will be selected.
  • Do this for other dates as well.
  • Click the ‘More options’ icon in the top right. Those are the three vertical dots.
  • click on To download.

The photos are stored on the computer as a so-called zip file. You must first unzip this file to view the photos. The tip ‘Create and open zip files’ describes how to unpack.

Downloading a complete album is done in the following way:

  • Click on the left in the image Albums.
  • Click on an album to open it.
  • Click the ‘More options’ icon in the top right. Those are the three vertical dots.
  • click on Download all.

Again a zip file is saved on the PC.
