The electric Volvo C40, simply put the flattened brother of the electric XC40, is very popular in Europe. The car is already sold out for this year.
According to Automotive News Europe Volvo’s factory in Ghent, Belgium, where the Volvo C40 and the XC40 are made, is heading for a production of 6,000 to 7,000 C40s in 2021. The factory does not make predictions for 2022, but the fact is that the C40 is very popular in Europe. This also applies to the Netherlands, the importer confirms. The production for this year was ‘sold out very quickly’, we hear from Beesd.
Now that in itself is not so surprising. After all, that popularity also applies to the XC40 and the C40 is its smoother-lined, hip brother. The big difference is that the C40 is only available in electric form. That will remain so. This also means that the car will leave a greater mark on the proportions in Volvo’s Belgian factory: by 2022, 60 percent of the cars built in Ghent must be fully electric.
Ordering a Volvo C40 is not only possible at the dealer, but also online. Volvo expressly focuses on subscription constructions for a fixed monthly amount. However, we also concluded earlier that the C40 is relatively favorably priced, which undoubtedly contributes to its success. At €57,995, the C40 is only €1,500 more expensive than an XC40 ‘Recharge Twin’ with the same powertrain. In addition, the currently only version of the C40, the Intro Edition, can best be compared with the XC40 Pro of €60,450. Then the hipper, newer (and tighter) C40 turns out to be cheaper, which makes it a real bargain in its category.
Incidentally, the popularity of this model does not immediately lead to an unforeseeable delivery time: ordering now means driving in March 2022, reports Volvo Netherlands.
