Active screen corners on Mac

Active screen corners on MacGive the corners of your Mac’s display a feature with Active Corners or Interactive Screen Corners. For example, quickly put the screen to sleep or display the Desktop.

On a Mac with the operating system macOS 11 Big Sur, it is possible to give the corners of the screen a function. This setting is a quick way to perform a particular task.

Nine different functions can be given to the corners. The choice consists of:

  • Open Mission Control.
  • Show app windows (opens all windows of the open app).
  • Show desktop.
  • Open Message Center.
  • Open launch pad.
  • Enable screen saver.
  • Disable screen saver.
  • Put the screen to sleep.
  • Show access screen.

Setting an active angle works as follows:

  • Click the Apple logo in the top left.
  • click on System Preferences.
  • click on Mission Control.
  • Click on the bottom left Interactive Corners.
  • There is a drop-down menu at each corner. Click on the menu at the corner to be made active.
  • Click on the desired function.
  • Also give other angles a function.
  • click on OK.
  • Close the System Preferences window via the red circle at the top left.

Using the corners is easy. Move the mouse to the set corner of the screen. The Mac performs the selected function. Stopping the task depends on the selected function. But in general, you stop the function by pressing any key or moving the mouse.

Setting active angles is very useful, but it also happens that the functions turn on accidentally. That is why there is also the possibility to set the functions to be activated only when you press a certain key, while moving the mouse towards the corner. You can do this with the Command, Shift, Option or Control keys.

  • Click the Apple logo in the top left.
  • click on System Preferences > Mission Control.
  • Click on the bottom left Interactive Corners.
  • Press and hold one of the four possible keys, for example the Command key.
  • Click on the menu at one of the corners.
  • Click on the desired function.
  • Release the button.
  • click on OK.
  • Close the System Preferences window via the red circle at the top left.

Then, to activate the function, press the selected key and move the mouse to the corner.
