BMW and extravagant design go hand in hand. The brand is now pulling a new study model from the top hat that listens to the name Concept XM. The Concept XM is a relatively concrete preview of a new SUV: the XM.
Anyone familiar with BMW’s study models knows that they often give a fairly concrete impression of what you can expect from a final production model. That promises something for the XM that will be launched in 2022. The XM seems to be an exuberantly designed SUV that is placed a step above the X7 in the BMW hierarchy. But that’s not the only thing that makes the car interesting.
This is how BMW describes the XM as the most powerful M model it has ever put on the market. Yes, the XM is called XM and not X8, which means that BMW has opted for the appearance of a large, high and heavy SUV for its first fully independent M model since the M1. Will the naming of the XM be okay between BMW and Citroën? Fortunately, BMW has received permission from Citroën to use the model name.
What also works well is the power of the XM. As mentioned, the new SUV will only be on the market as an M model and will also only be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. In the Concept XM is a mighty V8 that, thanks to the help of an electric motor, sends 750 hp and 1,000 Nm to all four wheels. That primal force is – how could it be otherwise – packaged quite eccentrically. The Concept XM
The BMW XM, derived from this study model, will run from the production line in Spartanburg in America from 2022, where the brand is already building a whole series of X models, from the X3 to the X7. The XM seems to share some of its technology with the latter, although the interior of the Concept XM suggests that the XM will have its own interior. We see a cockpit with a high and strongly rising center tunnel and two optically fused displays behind the steering wheel, as we know from cars like the BMW iX and i4. The X7 will eventually get a facelift and may be brought in line with the XM on the inside.
