The old mid-ranges seem to be becoming even more attractive now that the traditional mid-range is increasingly populated by SUVs and crossover-types. Especially if it is also an absolute top version, as with this Renault Laguna.
The first generation of the Renault Laguna has never really reached enthusiast status and you have to look really hard these days if you want to come across another one. A pity, because it was certainly an attractive model in its time and, moreover, it was a lot better put together than its successor. However, the majority have already found their way to the scrapyard or the export markets and find another spotless copy, if you are looking for it at all.
However, there is now a Laguna for sale that can probably make someone very happy. We are not just talking about a Laguna here, but a real Baccara with a 3.0-liter V6 in the nose. The absolute top version of the Laguna, which was also only temporarily available. Only with a Safrane in front of the door you made more of an impression, although that must have been a pretty thick version to match the Laguna Baccara.
Except with the 170 hp strong V6 – which was also available in a Laguna that had to do without the luxurious Baccara decoration – this version managed to spoil you on many fronts. For example, both seats upholstered in half leather in the front were electrically adjustable with even three memory positions. You also got speed-sensitive power steering, automatic air conditioning, cruise control, front and rear power windows, a sunshade for the rear window, a sound system with CD player with 6 speakers, and exterior decorations such as special alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. Optionally, you could also get an electronically operated sliding skylight, CD changer and heated windscreen. According to the supplier, on the copy we have here, almost everything that was not already standard on the Baccara has been checked on the order list, although we cannot spot the skylight.
With this Laguna you were completely the gentleman or lady in 1995 and actually that is still the case. Moreover, this specific example is only 150,000 km rich in experience, so that is not so bad. It is at a Renault dealer, who took the keys from the second owner. He has been loving it since 1997. All in all, we seem to be dealing with a car that should appeal to Renault fans or specifically Laguna enthusiasts. Then the only question is whether you have barely €7,000 left for it. That is a lot for a 26 year old Laguna, but something tells us that someone can be found who is willing to pay the asking price to give this special Frenchman a warm new home.
