The BMW X5 is certainly not a small boy, but for the Chinese market, the 4.9 meter long SUV is not big enough. AutoWeek can show you the first pictures of the extended X5 which has the same wheelbase as the huge X7.
From the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, AutoWeek has surfaced the first photos of the BMW X5 L, the extended version of the X5 that did not exist until now.
You’d think the BMW X5 wouldn’t need a longer version. If the X5 is too small for you, then you can move to the X7. This possibility also exists in China. Still, BMW managed to pry a hole between the X5 and the X7 in China, with a special result as a result. The BMW X5 L has a gigantic wheelbase of 3.11 meters. This means it has 13 centimeters more between the front and rear axles than the already known X5. That wheelbase of 3.11 meters is special because it is equal to that of the X7. The X5 L also increases in length compared to the regular X5. The X5 L is 5.06 meters long, which makes it 14 centimeters longer than its shorter brother. With a vehicle length of 5.15 meters, the BMW X7 is even larger, although the difference in length with the X5 has been reduced to just 9 centimeters due to the arrival of the L version.
The bumper work of the X5 L visible in these photos is also special. The front bumper resembles the version that is part of BMW’s optional M Sport package, but with its vertical ornaments on either side it is more like that of the M50i. The current generation X5 (G05) dates from 2018 and in November 2020 a packed test sample of the SUV appeared. Whether we also immediately get the X5 ‘LCI’ (Life Cycle Impulse) with these photos of the extended X5 with new bumper? It just might.
