The forming parties may present the coalition agreement this month. This includes, among other things, the controversial road pricing NOS.
Road pricing, where you pay tax based on the use (and emissions) of your car instead of a fixed amount per month, seems to be really coming. It has been a point of discussion in The Hague for decades and the VVD has often sharply opposed the idea of the parties that are now forming. However, there now seems to be a bullet through the church. The NOS has already absorbed what is globally stated in the coalition agreement and reports that road pricing is included.
Anyone who hopes to escape the dance with an electric car will be disappointed. EVs should also start paying. They are currently still exempt from the motor vehicle tax. Incidentally, we should not expect that we will immediately switch from MRB to road pricing next year. According to the NOS it could not even become a reality until the next government. After all, it takes quite some time to develop it.
De Bovag, the ANWB and the RAI association will be delighted with this news. Earlier this autumn, those three parties announced that they were in favor of road pricing and would like to see this reflected in the coalition agreement. Paying according to use would be more in line with the climate goals. With road pricing, you would pay according to the kilometers you actually drive and the CO2 emissions of your car.
