‘Audi R8 successor fully electric’

‘Audi R8 successor fully electric’

Audi will only release fully electric models from 2026. Unfortunately, we have to disappoint anyone who hopes that Audi will release a successor to the R8 with a combustion engine before that time.

The Audi R8 is getting older. The second generation dates from 2015 and was facelifted in 2018. So it looks like the R8 doesn’t have very long to go and petrol enthusiasts might as well enjoy it a little longer. A possible successor to the R8 will no longer have a V10 as a beating heart. Also no V6 with electrical support or anything like that. No, Audi Sport is fully committed to electrification for its models. This confirms the head of product marketing, Linda Kurz, of Audi Sport to CNET.com.

This mainly means that RS models will eventually become acquainted with electric support or, like the E-Tron GT, become fully electric. The R8 is a different story. A successor could already appear before 2026 (given the age of the current R8) that will also partly benefit from fuel power, but that does not seem to be happening. “The R-segment will be all-electric,” Kurz said.

It is not yet known whether there will be a direct successor that also bears the name R8. R8 e-tron would be a logical name if the car otherwise follows roughly the same philosophy. That name was there before. In 2015, Audi already presented an R8 e-tron, a fully electric 460 hp and 920 Nm electric sports car that accelerated to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and had a range of 450 km (NEDC). However, fewer than 100 copies were made.
