That’s another horribly specific piece of information: the most popular car colors in Germany! Unfortunately, it is not colorful news, because almost a third of the cars sold in Germany in 2021 were gray or silver.
It’s a kind of little cucumber time, such a New Year’s Eve. There is usually no big news (exception) and so you, bored on what is undoubtedly a day off, are condemned to whatever the undersigned can find. Today, thanks to the Frankfurter Allgemeine, we learn what the most popular car colors are in Germany.
Secretly that is quite relevant, because more and more Dutch people are buying a car there. The chance that that car is gray or silver gray appears to be very high. No less than one third of the new cars sold in Germany in 2021 were in such a gray shade. If we also include black and white among the gray tones, then that share grows to, hold on, three quarters.
In any case, Germany follows the global trend neatly. Of all the shades that are popular in Germany – because ‘colours’ is a bit too much credit – white has grown the fastest in recent times. In 2006 only 1.6 percent of German car buyers opted for white, now it is more than 20 percent.
If we still focus on the real colors, then blue is the most popular with 10 percent of the share. Red scores 6 percent of the total, green 1.7. However, the popularity of green is increasing, because the share has not been so ‘high’ since 2005.
The Verband der Automobilindustrie is kicking in an open door by indicating what it sees as the main reason for the abundance of grey: the expected residual value. If we all now take buying a brightly colored used car as a 2022 resolution, hopefully that trend will finally come to an end. Or… do you also prefer grey, white and black? Let me know!
