Cadillac is the absolute luxury brand within General Motors, so it can hardly be otherwise than that the brand shows a piece of luxurious high-tech future music during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. In the form of this InnerSpace Concept, Cadillac does just that.
Cadillac maintains what it calls a Halo Concept Portfolio to which it occasionally adds a new study model. At CES 2021, Cadillac showed the first two Halo Concepts with the PersonnalSpace and the SocialSpace, successively a kind of drone and a square autonomous van for six passengers. The new addition to the Halo portfolio is this fully luxurious and indulgent InnerSpace.
What do the Halo Concepts have in common? According to Cadillac, they are all vehicles ‘from the distant future’, each of which can take you from A to B in its own special way without any form of effort. According to Cadillac, without effort also means directly without any form of interference from the occupants. This InnerSpace is therefore completely autonomous, but completely different from the PersonnalSpace and SocialSpace.
The InnerSpace is a fully autonomous two-seater that is purely aimed at pampering its passengers. In terms of vision, the InnerSpace is somewhat reminiscent of classic American cars from the ‘personal luxury’ segment such as the Cadillac Eldorado. The InnerSpace is a wattle of a coupe with a far forward and very flat windshield that flows smoothly into the roof that merges in a similar way with the rear window. Caddy’s concept has a large overhang behind, stands on extravagant light metal and is an impressive appearance from almost every angle. When open, the InnerSpace provides a visual spectacle. The forward and the roof form a single unit that can be opened towards the front.
In the interior you will find no steering wheel, no pedals and no physical buttons. The interior of the InnerSpace should be a place where you can relax and so the furniture consists of nothing but two armchairs apparently with a wool-like material. From those seats you can stare for hours at the gigantic screen hung right in front of your tube. No concept car for the Consumer Electronics Show without the necessary digital bravado, so Cadillac speaks of the presence of extensive artificial intelligence, augmented reality and wellness programs to pamper the occupants down to the smallest fiber.
Of course, thanks to GM’s Ultium platform, the InnerSpace is electrically powered, but extensive technical data is lacking. These are certainly not the most important thing in this distant view, in which a classic American car concept is translated into the future.
