The widgets are now familiar territory for iPhone and iPad users. Since macOS Big Sur, Mac users can also get started with it. The latest version of the operating system, macOS Monterey 12, also brings the new Find My widget. How can you add widgets in macOS 12?
Widgets are small notification blocks with which linked apps can inform you directly from the home screen about all kinds of things, such as the current time, the weather and the latest news. Not only are they from Apple itself, but many third-party developers now offer a widget for their app. So very handy!
Widgets in macOS work a little differently than on a iPhone or iPad. You won’t see them directly on the Mac’s home screen, but you’ll find them on the right side of the screen. As soon as you click on the date or time, the notifications come from the macOS Message Center appears and here you will find all active notification blocks. From this screen you can add, remove or arrange widgets.
Add and Remove
At the bottom of the Notification Center you will find the option Change widgets and when you click on it you will see a list of all available widgets. You can search on a specific widget or on a category to get an overview of which widgets are available within a certain category. If you have found one, click on the plus sign to add it.
You can drag widgets to your liking, but you can also resize them by holding down the Control key on a notification block and choosing a different size. You see Change widget then you can adjust some additional options. For example, in the Reminders List widget, you can choose a different list of reminders. If you want to remove a widget, click the button with the minus sign.
When you have added all the widgets you want, you can click at the bottom right of the screen Ready click.
Find my widgets
New in macOS Monterey 12 is the ability to add Find My widgets to the Notification Center on the Mac. You can then easily see the location of your friends and objects on your desktop, without having to open the Find My app first. If you want to track more friends or the location of certain objects at the same time, you can create multiple Find My widgets.
