Hyundai and sister brand Kia are preparing a strong EV offensive that is already starting to take shape in the form of cars like the Ioniq 5 and EV6. Hyundai gives the fairly large and angular Ioniq 5 in the form of the Ioniq 6 a lower, rounder but at least as extravagantly designed brother. It is the Hyundai Ioniq 6 that can be seen again in test suit on these spy plates.
Electric cars are slowly but surely becoming available in more body styles. Initially, EVs were mainly hatchbacks, crossovers or SUVs, but car manufacturers are increasingly targeting other segments as well. Mercedes-Benz has the EQS and the EQE, MG comes with an electric station wagon, Tesla has had the Model S and Model 3 for ages and Hyundai is sharpening the knives to put them in the sales success of the latter. The weapon? The Ioniq 6.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is the lower brother of the Ioniq 5, over which Hyundai pours a completely different but at least as pronounced design language. Where the Ioniq 5 with its angular hatchback shape somewhat harks back to car design from the eighties, the Ioniq 6 becomes a much rounder model in which we see some influences of the nineties with a little imagination. Of course, the Ioniq 6 will also become a modern thing to see and Hyundai’s design team has clearly not held back behind the drawing board. The Ioniq 6 has a striking sloping buttock with probably a spoiler-like ornament. The Ioniq 6 will in fact become the production version of the Hyundai Prophecy Concept, although the design of that study model is transferred to the Ioniq 6 to a lesser extent than the design of the Hyundai 45 Concept to the Ioniq 5.

Like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the 6 will be on the E-GMP platform. Thanks to the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, we already know what this platform specially developed for electric cars has to offer. Expect versions with a 73 kWh battery and possibly also a more affordable version with 58 kWh battery. The versions with the larger battery pack will be available with rear and front-wheel drive, so count on multiple power versions.
The Ioniq 6 is certainly not the only thing that Hyundai has in development on the Ioniq level. The brand is still coming with a spectacular N version of the Ioniq 5 and in due course will come with the electric SUV derived from this Seven Concept, which will be called Ioniq 7.
