In the past Hymer built, among other things, campers based on the Ford Transit. That will happen again, because the Erwin Hymer Group and Ford sign a framework agreement for intensive cooperation.
If you now look at the range of Hymer and its subsidiary brands, you will mainly see motorhomes based on Mercedes and Fiat vans. From now on, the Ford Transit and Ford Transit Custom will be assisting more often. Ford will supply Transits intended for motorhome construction directly to the Erwin Hymer Group. In any case, subsidiary brands Etrusco (photo 1) and Bürstner (photo 2) are involved. Bürstner already offers the Copa, based on the Ford Transit. The vans roll off the production line in Turkey, just like all other Transits, and then go to Hymer in Bad Waldsee, Germany, for conversion. Until 2024, Ford will supply, among other things, panel vans and chassis-cab Transits to Hymer for motorhome construction.
However, the collaboration entails even more. Ford and Hymer enter a strategic partnership to work together on future ideas for recreational vehicles. Ford will share expertise in areas such as driver assistance systems and electrification. The latter is especially interesting, because it may eventually lead to a camper version of the fully electric E-Transit. Ford’s knowledge is most likely not only reflected in Hymer Transits, as Ford states that it will also work with Hymer to further develop products from the Erwin Hymer Group brands. In addition to Etrusco and Bürstner, this also includes the well-known brands of caravans, Eriba and Dethleffs.
